About the Bishops Stortford Social Club

The Bishops Stortford Social Club (originally the working men's club) became in 1873 by founder Rev Richard Alliot, Headmaster of the Non-conformist grammar school, which convened after a meeting at the Corn Exchange on 4th December 1873. Women were welcome from the start and they had a coffee room for their use. It surpassed many expectations and become quite overcrowded. This success we wish to maintain at the social club and we again enforce all are welcome. We are a great community with a small staff that get to know everyone. We hold events for this community and it is a great buzz.
